Students who couldn't get their scholarship and fee reimbursement for the 2024-25 financial year because of carelessness by officials and institutions will soon receive their pending money. Following the Chief Minister's instructions, action has already been taken against more than 100 officials in the Social Welfare and Higher Education departments. It's also expected that officials in the Minority Welfare and Backward Class Welfare departments could face action soon.

On top of this, the government has arranged Rs 300 crore to pay these students and is getting ready to reopen the scholarship website for them.

The problem happened because over six lakh students were left out of the scheme in 2024-25 due to the negligence of the concerned departments and their educational institutions. This situation arose simply because these bodies failed to lock and forward the students' data on time. Recently, the Social Welfare Department and others raised this issue, after which the government ordered action against those responsible.

As a result, District Social Welfare Officers and related clerks in several cities—including Varanasi, Bijnor, Kannauj, Auraiya, Sitapur, Ballia, Bareilly, Aligarh, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Pratapgarh, Ayodhya, Bahraich, and Raebareli—have received a formal negative mark on their record. In Bareilly, one office clerk has also been suspended. Furthermore, instructions have been given to take action against the responsible officials at the educational institutions.

According to sources, more than three and a half lakh of the six lakh affected students belong to minority and other backward classes. Because of this, it's likely that officials in these departments will also face action shortly.

Meanwhile, the process to give the students their scholarship and fee money is about to begin. Students from the 2024-25 session who were left out will be given another chance to apply on the scholarship website. The money will be paid out after their applications are verified. The Social Welfare Department has prepared a proposal for this, which will soon be presented to the state cabinet. Once it's approved, a timeline for applications will be announced, and the process of distributing the funds will start.
