A Major Part of the state experienced sunshine and humidity as the depression moved a day earlier, turned weak on Saturday.  The sky is expected to turn grey on Sunday, followed by heavy rainfall. Along with a downpour, a warning for lightning in 45 districts is also in place. On the other hand, the heavy rainfall in Varanasi has led to a flood-like situation, resulting in rescue operations. 

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has released an update regarding the weather forecast for Uttar Pradesh. According to the weather centre in Lucknow, heavy rain is expected in 7 districts of UP on July 20, with a yellow alert issued for:

  • Saharanpur
  • Shamli
  • Meerut
  • Muzaffarnagar
  • Bijnor
  • Amroha
  • Moradabad

Additionally, lightning is possible in 45 districts amid thundering clouds, including:

  • Sonbhadra
  • Chandauli
  • Ghazipur
  • Mau
  • Ballia
  • Gorakhpur
  • Deoria
  • Sant Kabir Nagar
  • Kushinagar
  • Maharajganj
  • Siddharthnagar

Meanwhile, cities like Lucknow, Ayodhya, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Prayagraj, Chitrakoot, and Varanasi are expected to experience clear skies with humid heat.

UP Weather Forecast

According to Professor Manoj Kumar Srivastava, a meteorologist at Banaras Hindu University, there is a possibility of rain in UP for the next 2-3 days due to cloud movement, with another spell of good rain expected after July 25. 

800 Shifted To Relief Camp After Varanasi Flood

800 people from over 140 families were shifted to relief camps after the Ganga River reached the warning level of 70.26 metres on Saturday, increasing the threat of flooding in low-lying and riverbank areas in Varanasi.

As per the daily bulletin released by the Central Water Commission, the record of the maximum water level in Varanasi was 73.90 meters in 1978. As the trend of increase was maintained at Prayagraj and Fafamau, and the river was also on the rise at Mirzapur upstream, it was expected that the water level would cross the warning level on Sunday.
