The Uttar Pradesh government has earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for creating the world’s largest online photo album of people planting trees. The achievement comes after the state planted over 37.21 crore saplings in a single day as part of its massive plantation drive.
According to officials, the Forest Department uploaded over 2,34,141 verified photos of people planting saplings to secure the record. The previous record was held by Hero MotoCorp, which had uploaded 1,32,775 photos during its ‘Hero Green Drive’ in September 2021.

The UP Forest Department had earlier, on July 9, 2025, broken another Guinness record by gathering 2,100 people to plant saplings simultaneously at one location, surpassing Assam’s record.
For the latest record, participants uploaded more than 7 lakh photos through the official portal (https://pmsupfd.in) between July 9 and August 9, including GPS coordinates and details of the sapling species.
Following a digital forensic audit, around 4.5 lakh photos were discarded for not meeting standards. The remaining verified images secured the Guinness title, with the certificate officially issued on Monday.
