An Army soldier, Kapil Kavad of the Rajput Regiment, was assaulted by toll booth staff at the Bhuni toll plaza in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Kapil, who was home on leave and traveling to Delhi airport to return to his post in Srinagar, got into an altercation with the toll booth employees after getting stuck in heavy traffic.
The dispute reportedly began when Kapil mentioned that his village falls within an area exempt from toll charges. The argument escalated, and at least five toll booth workers physically attacked Kapil and his cousin.
A video that circulated online showed the soldiers being beaten, with Kapil pinned to a pole and struck with sticks while being verbally abused.
Rakesh Kumar Mishra, Superintendent of Police (Rural), said a case has been registered. "Kapil is in the Indian Army. He was returning to his post. There was a long queue at the Bhuni toll booth. He was in a hurry and he spoke to the toll booth staff. An argument began and the toll booth staff assaulted him. Following a complaint from his family, a case was registered at Sarurpur police station."
