An Army soldier, Kapil Kavad of the Rajput Regiment, was assaulted by toll booth staff at the Bhuni toll plaza in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Kapil, who was home on leave and traveling to Delhi airport to return to his post in Srinagar, got into an altercation with the toll booth employees after getting stuck in heavy traffic.

The dispute reportedly began when Kapil mentioned that his village falls within an area exempt from toll charges. The argument escalated, and at least five toll booth workers physically attacked Kapil and his cousin.

A video that circulated online showed the soldiers being beaten, with Kapil pinned to a pole and struck with sticks while being verbally abused.

Rakesh Kumar Mishra, Superintendent of Police (Rural), said a case has been registered. "Kapil is in the Indian Army. He was returning to his post. There was a long queue at the Bhuni toll booth. He was in a hurry and he spoke to the toll booth staff. An argument began and the toll booth staff assaulted him. Following a complaint from his family, a case was registered at Sarurpur police station."

"Four accused have been arrested after scanning CCTV footage and videos. Two more teams are working to arrest the other accused," the senior officer said.

Following the incident, four toll booth staff members were arrested in connection with the assault.

“Under the Sarurpur police station area, at the Bhuni Toll Plaza, an incident of assault on an Indian Army soldier by toll workers occurred. The police took swift action and arrested 04 accused individuals. A statement regarding this matter was given by the Superintendent of Police (Rural),” the Meerut Police said in an X post.
