Devotees are showing unprecedented enthusiasm for the Badrinath Dham Yatra this year, one of Uttarakhand’s key Char Dham pilgrimages. So far, around 14.53 lakh devotees have paid their respects to Lord Badrinath Vishal, surpassing last year’s figure of 14.35 lakh pilgrims, with nearly a month and a half of the yatra remaining.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had directed officials to ensure the smooth conduct of the Char Dham Yatra even before it commenced, and has been regularly reviewing the arrangements. Owing to the state government’s efficient management, the pilgrimage has continued uninterrupted despite challenging weather conditions.

The local administration has implemented extensive measures to support pilgrims, including robust facilities on all yatra routes and halting points, special teams and JCBs for clearing roads in sensitive zones, and SDRF personnel stationed along the routes for immediate assistance. Adequate accommodation and bonfire (alav) arrangements have also been made as temperatures drop due to snowfall.
Officials noted that as the closing of the temple portals (kapatbandi) approaches on November 25, the number of visitors is rising steadily. Along with Kedarnath, Badrinath Dham has witnessed a significant surge in pilgrim turnout this season.
Meanwhile, the portals of Shri Hemkund Sahib in Chamoli district will close for the winter on October 10. The shrine too has seen record numbers this year, with 2.71 lakh devotees visiting compared to 1.83 lakh last year.
