In a significant move to ease the house-building process, the Uttarakhand government has introduced a system of pre-approved building design maps that can be accessed online. The initiative aims to cut down on delays and hurdles in obtaining building plan approvals.

Principal Secretary R Meenakshi Sundaram has directed the Uttarakhand Housing and Urban Development Authority to ensure hassle-free access to these maps for the public. All development authorities have also been instructed to prepare a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to avoid application-related issues.

Under the new system, 815 pre-approved maps have already been prepared and will soon be uploaded to the online Ease app and the Suraksha portal. Applicants can now use these standard maps to obtain construction permission without requiring separate designs.

The new process will work on a self-certification basis, with applicants confirming online that their construction aligns with the approved map. Any deviation from the approved design will make the applicant solely responsible and subject to action by the Housing Department.
