In a major step to modernise technical education, the Uttarakhand government has established Artificial Intelligence (AI) laboratories in four of its government polytechnic institutes, Pithhuwala and Ranipokhari in Dehradun, Kashipur in Udham Singh Nagar, and Dwarahat in Almora.

The initiative allows students to study traditional subjects such as electronics, mechanical, civil, and computer science through the lens of modern technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Analytics.

The laboratories are equipped with high-speed internet, advanced software, computing resources, and trained faculty, enabling practical training, technical research, and industry-relevant project work.

Deshraj, Director of Technical Education, stated that the government is investing crores of rupees in this project to prepare youth for future technologies. He added that the facilities would serve as inspiration and guidance for the state’s remaining 71 polytechnic institutes, aiming to raise the standard of technical education and enhance employment opportunities for students.

The initiative also includes project-based learning and industry collaboration programs, allowing students to align technical education with industry needs. By integrating AI into traditional curricula, students gain skills in data analysis, smart control systems, predictive modelling, automation, robotics, and smart manufacturing. This equips diploma students with problem-solving abilities, technical knowledge, and job-ready skills for current and future industries.
