This year's monsoon season has brought huge challenges for the Uttarakhand Power Corporation. The continuous heavy rain, landslides, and other disasters across the state have badly damaged the power corporation's electricity infrastructure. So far, the estimated damage has crossed Rs 45 crore, which is Rs 5 crore more than the total loss from all of last year.
According to the Power Corporation, about 75 per cent of the total damage this year has been reported in the hilly districts. Here, due to heavy rain and landslides, hundreds of electricity poles have been uprooted, many kilometers of power lines have been broken, and a large number of transformers have also been damaged. In many areas, temporary power is being restored using trolley transformers. It's becoming a big challenge for the corporation to restore power in areas that are frequently hit by disasters, where they have to install new poles and transformers while also depending on temporary solutions.
Last year, the Power Corporation suffered a loss of about Rs 40 crore during the monsoon, whereas this year the figure has already crossed Rs 45 crore. In addition, several small hydropower stations located in the mountains have also suffered some damage, and their repair work is ongoing.

The Energy Corporation has also appealed to the public to immediately report any power-related problem during an emergency to the corporation's helpline number, 1912, so that quick action can be taken.
The corporation is continuously working to get the power supply back to normal. According to the Director of Operations, MR Arya, the power supply had been restored in most parts of the state by Wednesday. However, the power supply is still cut off in about 15 villages in the hilly districts. The corporation's teams are constantly working to install new poles and lay new power lines in these areas.
