The ocean is full of surprises and half the natural phenomena that occur in the sea are still rare to humans. But a lucky Australian kayaker was able to experience one of the strangest yet beautiful phenomena, while he was on an ocean adventure. Taking to social media, Brodie Moss, a nature enthusiast and a YouTuber, shared the video of his encounter with a humpback whale that was resting still in the middle of the ocean, with only its tail visible above the water. Surprised over the encounter, the man’s curiosity was visible in the clip. The post instantly went viral as it left the netizens impressed and scared at the same time.
The post was shared on the man’s YouTube channel named ‘YBS Youngbloods’. The video was titled, “Whale Vs Transparent Kayak.” The YouTuber further described the phenomenon in the description and wrote, “I believe this is called 'tail sailing' and it's really rare for humpback whales to do, rarely been captured on film and no one really knows why they do it? Hopefully this footage helps understand it a little better.”

As the video began, the kayaker showed a humpback whale resting in the middle of the ocean with its tail above the water. The man was surprised and confused to see the whale resting so still in such a position. “I don't even know what to say,” the man was heard saying in the background. He then sailed towards the whale to get a closer look. The man also dipped his camera inside the water to show the whale, which was seen still with its face facing the bottom of the sea. The whale was also accompanied by the young one that was swimming around it. Without disturbing the animal, the man then left the spot and joined his friends.
The video is being heavily circulated on social media, making it go viral. Some netizens found it beautiful, while others found the encounter scary. Some also pointed out that the phenomenon is called ‘tail sailing’, and explained it in the comment section.
