Biryani, yet again, emerged on the top! Or is it even surprising anymore? The most conscientious and well-aware answer of this question would be a ‘no’, because if the phrase ‘ate and left no crumbs’ had a face, Biryani would be its most celebrated face and its brand ambassador. Why the sudden 'hype', you ask? Well, how can we not hail the dish when it absolutely tore all the charts after it topped the ‘most ordered’ list on Swiggy, for the EIGHTH consecutive year? Yes, let that sink in because the dish, in recent years, has turned into an absolute ‘king’ of the food ‘kingdom’, and the foodies (subjects), it seems, cannot get enough of it.

However, Biryani was not the only one that broke several records, as popular food delivery apps also witnessed some other incidents throughout the year, when foodies unleashed ‘hell’ of all kinds, when ordering their favourites. Let’s take a look.

The next item that left Swiggy packing little ‘square’ boxes for orders from left, right, and centre, for a ‘circular’ snack, was the beloved pizza. Not a surprise, once again. Pizza became another food item on the list, as the bars went over the scale especially on November 19- the World Cup 2023 final. Basically, Indians had pizza the day India locked horns with Australia.

Coming to India collectively giving proof of having a sweet tooth; Indians also ordered cakes and Gulab Jamuns in bulk this year. And the sale of chocolate cake was on a different level on May 14, Mother's Day. Seems like mothers really like their truffle. Not to forget August 30, the day Indians ordered the most Gulab Jamuns.

Some other honourable mentions that stood out on this ‘yum’ list were Butter Naan, Japanese cuisine, Masala Dosa, and more. All in all, 2023 wrapped up with Indians ordering all kinds of foods to celebrate the momentous days that brought joy to every Indian this year. In a nutshell, a ‘healthy diet’ or ‘gym instructions’ surely went for a long toss in 2023.
