As Chandrayaan-3 successfully moved a step closer towards its much-anticipated Moon landing, ISRO on August 18 released the images of the Moon that were captured by the Vikram Lander Module. The images were taken by the Lander Position Detection Camera on August 15 and August 17. The Lander Modul successfully separated from the Propulsion Module yesterday, and its health is currently normal, according to ISRO. The LM went under a deboosting operation to reduce its orbit, while the next deboosting operation is scheduled for August 20.

Chandrayaan-3 is India’s third lunar Indian Space Research exploration mission. The Landing Module is expected to make the soft landing on the Moon’s south pole on August 23. If the landing goes as planned, India will become the fourth country to do so after the US, Russia, and China. IRSO launched Chandrayaan-3 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Andhra Pradesh on July 14.
