Erica Robin Miss Universe Pakistan: Etching her name in the history of the Miss Universe pageant, Erica Robin, a 25-year-old woman hailing from Karachi, will make history when she will walk the Miss Universe stage representing Pakistan. In the 72 years of history of the pageant, this Pakistani Christian is the first to participate from her nation. Mostly, when a woman prepares to compete for such a prestigious title, her country celebrates and encourages her in every way possible, but Pakistan had some other plans for Robin. Turning the achievement into a nightmare, many from her own nation, including Pakistan’s government personalities, have reportedly started bashing and chastising her for participating in the Miss Universe pageant.

Erica Robin's representation of Pakistan is important in more reasons than one as it is rare for a Muslim-majority country to have women for such pageants, or any kind of pageant for that matter of fact. The journey began after Robin left behind Sabrina Wasim, Malika Alvi, Hira Inam, and Jessica Wilson and clinched the Miss Universe Pakistan title, the finals for which were reportedly held in Maldives.

Soon after the news of a Pakistani woman competing in the Miss Universe pageant surfaced, people began the backlash. A Pakistani Senator targeted the organisers of the Miss Universe Pakistan and called the act “shameful”, according to the reports. In fact, Pakistan’s Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar also spoke on the matter and reportedly urged the nation’s intelligence agency to investigate the matter.

Ironically, Robin, when asked about her aspirations, reportedly spoke about her aim to change her country’s perception in front of the world. However, it appears as if her aim to change the nation's image is somewhat not in line with the thinking of some people in Pakistan itself. Despite the backlash, the young talent is ready to walk the stage with her head held high, with hopes to change her country’s name. She further spoke on the controversy and reportedly believed that the backlash was due to the requirement of her walking in a ‘swimsuit’ in a room full of the opposite gender.
