Kota suicide cases: The entire India lost two more young lives after the students died by suicide in Rajasthan’s Kota on August 27. The suicide tally in Kota reached a grim number of 23 after the teenagers took the devastating step. As soon as the sad news made it into the headlines, netizens were quick to share their concerns over the matter and pointed out the lack of action by the Government.

The teens who took their lives were preparing for NEET to get admission to medical colleges. Kota has been witnessing a sharp rise in the number of suicide cases, representing the intense pressure that the students are facing during their preparations.

Taking to social media, people shared their views on the situation.

“In the last 8 months, 20 suicide cases have been reported so far !!! The Government is still busy changing fans. The matter is from #Kota,” a user said.

“I have some concerns about KOTA #suicides. Some Institute owners agree that there is pressure on study and completion and some do not agree. Parents are also equally responsible for this,” said a second netizen.

“Government when it comes to looking into matter of #Kota,” wrote a netizen who took a dig at the government over lack of actions.

“How important this message is for all of us amidst the heartbreaking news of the suicide of Students from KOTA.#kotasuicide #Kota,” said another user.

Business tycoon Anand Mahindra also addressed the matter and encouraged students to "find" themselves rather than prove themselves. “I am as disturbed as you are by this news. Tragic to see so many bright futures being extinguished. I don’t have any great wisdom to share. But I would want to tell every student in Kota that your goal at this stage of life is not to prove yourself but to FIND yourself. Lack of success in an examination is simply part of a journey of self-exploration. It means your real talents lie elsewhere. Keep searching, keep traveling. You will eventually discover—and uncover—what brings out the best in you,” the industrialist’s post read.

Kota is hailed as the coaching hub of the country. The entire town is full of coaching centers and students who prepare to crack competitive exams like the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) and National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).

After the recent tragedies, the government has reportedly asked the institutes to cancel routine exams for the next two months. Some institutes have also installed springs on ceiling fans and ‘anti-suicide nets’ to prevent students from taking such a drastic step. However, the steps still did not sit well with the netizens as most believed that the authorities were not aiming to improve the mental health of the young minds.
