When it comes to pronunciation, it's safe to say that Britishers and Americans seem to be living in separate worlds altogether- that’s how far apart some of their pronunciations are, for certain terms. In fact, over the period of time, this difference in pronunciation has only become much more ‘mainstream’, where making videos of people comparing words and their pronunciations has turned into a thing. Highlighting the same yet again, a woman recently shared her ‘disbelief’ over how people in the US pronounce the term ‘Niche’.
Taking to her X (formerly Twitter) handle, the said woman wrote, “Just discovered how americans pronounce niche, need a moment.”
Of course, the X post acted much like a ‘burning matchstick’ in a dried-out forest, and the ‘pronunciation war' that it ‘ignited’, surely spread faster than any wildfire. The post, to say the least, went viral and pulled all kinds of reactions. It, in fact, pulled more than 30M views in less than 3 days.

For people unaware, the term ‘Niche’ is pronounced as ‘neesh’. For reference, it sounds much like sheesh. Meanwhile, people in the US pronounce the term as ‘Nich’, which sounds much like pitch.
Responding to the post, countless Brits came forward and shared their own take on the matter, and even mocked and cracked hilarious jokes on the same. Whereas, countering the take, many Americans advocated for their side and responded with ‘witty’ responses.

Taking to the comment section, this is how people reacted. “Also their complete refusal to use the word fortnight,” a user said. “I hate to be the one to break it to you, but many of your fellow countrymen are saying nitch” added a second person. “When I found out they're actually Graham Crackers and not Gram Crackers my head was gone,” commented a third person.
“Pray tell? I am still recovering from discovering how they pronounce twat when I had the subtitles on Orange is the New Black. Who knew,” added another. “We realize that can feel like a niche pronunciation,” added another. “while I concede that nitch sounds strange, we will not be taking lectures on pronunciation from the land that says ‘shedule’, thank you very much,” added another.
“I’m convinced people from the UK know like 6 people from the United States and just assume they speak for everyone and everybody,” commented the next. “Pronouncing aluminium, aloominum is some of their worst work,” added another.
