UK-based YouTubers and a popular same-sex couple who made headlines over their cross-border love story in 2019, Anjali Chakra from India and Sufi Malik from Pakistan, left their fans in shock with the sudden announcement of calling off their wedding. Taking to social media on March 24, Chakra broke the sad news, however, she did not reveal the reason. “Sufi & I have been blessed to spend the last 5+ years together in a loving, beautiful partnership that we have been so honoured to share with you all,” her Instagram post read.
“This may come as a shock, but our journeys are now shifting. We have decided to call off our wedding and end our relationship due to infidelity committed by Sufi,” it further read.
As soon as the post went online, speculation and possible reasons assumed by netizens began to float on Chakra’s comment section. However, the mystery remained a mystery for hardly a day as Malik then took to her social media and revealed the reason. As per the post, Sufi cheated on Chakra in their relationship of more than 5 years. Confessing the same, Sufi revealed that she cheated on her partner a few days before their wedding.
“I made an unrecognisable mistake of betrayal by cheating on her (Anjali) a few weeks before our wedding…I’m owning up to my mistake and will continue to do so,” read Malik’s post. A while after the YouTuber updated on the matter, many came forward in Chakra’s support.
The couple went viral in 2019 after their photoshoot stole the spotlight. Apart from being lovers from different nations, the two also belong to the LGBT community, which played a further role in making them inspiring influencers for millions. They also shared a YouTuber channel together, which had a following of 1.36 lakh subscribers. Meanwhile, the announcement of their engagement was done a year ago, through a proposal post. In the post, it was Sufi who popped the big question at the Empire State Building in New York.

Reacting to Chakra’s post, people shared their views. Most sympathised with her and reminded her of her own ‘importance’. “I believe there was no need to disclose the reason that would inevitably lead to Sufi's mass character assassination based on Islamophobia and homophobia. No matter how much your fans loved you, none of us 'deserve' to know,” a user read. “Girl I’m concerned about the geopolitical ramifications,” read the second comment. “Wtf girl? You deserve so much better (I am 5'2 and a femme btw),” added another.
“Why are some people genuinely condoning cheating and asking Anjali to forgive Sufi. nobody has brains anymore and this parasocial relationship some of these people have w ppl on social media is borderline creepy,” read another.
