‘Ullu Bach Gaya’: Netizens React As Alt Balaji And Ullu Skip List Of Blocked OTT Platforms By I&B Ministry

Alt Balaji And Ullu Skip I&B Ministry’s OTT Block: It seems like the Centre's multiple warnings to OTT platforms against obscene and vulgar content hardly affected the platforms as the Government was eventually compelled to take a bigger step; blocking them. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting recently blocked 18 OTT platforms, in a bid to take action against the vulgar content that was being consumed by many in the country through these platforms. A notice regarding the same was shared on the social media handle of the news agency ANI. As per the notice, the Centre blocked 19 websites, 10 apps, and 57 social media handles of the said OTT platforms. The notice went viral in no time, however, what gained the most attention was that OTT platforms Ullu and Alt Balaji somehow skipped the ‘block’.

The post by ANI read, “Ministry of I&B blocks 18 OTT platforms for obscene and vulgar content after multiple warnings; 19 websites, 10 apps, 57 social media handles of OTT platforms blocked nationwide, says the government.”

As soon as people began to notice the absence of Ullu and Alt Balaji from the list, they were quick to raise questions on the same. Many pointed out that the two platforms were mostly on the ‘top’ as far as ‘obscene and vulgar content’ is concerned, while some even called the block a ‘futile’ attempt as it did not include the two platforms.

Taking to social media, people began to react to the move.

“Ullu and Alt balaji escaped because they don't remove full clothes,” a user said.

“Ullu bach gaya,” said a second person.

“If Alt Balaji and Ullu are not on the list, this ban won't mean much. These two are the frontrunners in terms of serving such content,” said a third person.

“Ullu is linked to Dubai based Hawala, it seems. At 200 rupees for am year, it's business model seems something else. Very brave reporting by @ShantanuGuhaRay. This pedophilic trash must be stopped before it raises 200 crore through IPO to sell more perversion to kids,” said another.

“Looks like a half baked attempt under pressure. No action taken against AltBalaji and Ullu. They are bigger, popular and serve soft poरn,” said another.
