It hardly took a couple of decades for humanity to reach space, develop Artificial Intelligence, and whatnot, however, it’s somehow taking centuries for the same humanity to understand the negative effects of an uncalled-for humiliation on one’s mental health. Yes, ‘why the sudden pointing out’, you ask? Well, believe it or not, but facts like us living in 2024 are hard to believe when cases like fat shaming still make headlines. And that is exactly what a woman journalist allegedly faced when she boarded her Emirates flight from Delhi.
Taking to her social media handle, the woman opened up about her horrible experience, where the airline’s staff fat-shamed her, along with misbehaving with her. According to her viral post, the staff further gave her a ‘nonreclining seat’ for her overnight journey, eventually causing her to break out in tears.
The post was shared on X (formerly Twitter), by the user ‘seekingsrishti’. It read, “This is 2024 and I can't believe this still happens. I was fat-shamed by @emirates staff at New Delhi airport. Not only did they misbehave with me, but gave me a non reclining seat on an overnight journey. As I board the flight, I'm in tears yet their ground staff is rude af.”

The airline, on the other hand, later apologised for the ill behaviour. “We're sorry to hear this Srishti. You can submit your feedback here http://bit.ly/2H6ebBk. Our Customer Affairs team will review it and get back to you. DM us if you need further assistance,” the response by the official X handle of the airline read.

The post drew a lot of attention from netizens, meanwhile, the airlines received major criticism. Some people narrated the ordeal that they went through while flying with Emirates, while some complained about the matter to Emirates and tagged their official X handle on the viral post. The X post was shared yesterday and pulled 102K views from people.
Taking to the comment box, netizens expressed their disappointment. “This is so unfortunate. Must be your local Indian staff Emirates. Sack them. And when you recruit new ones, train them, educate them on culture, hospitality, and basic etiquettes & manners,” a user said. “It used to be my favourite airline. Over the years their prices have shot up while their services and customer relationships have deteriorated. #Emirates #Airlines,” added a second person.
“It's not something you expect from @emirates. I have always heard such good things about their hospitality. Hope you are feeling better,” joined a third user. “I have had equally bad experience with @Emirates actually mine was worse because I was racially abused...besides that extremely poor service as a whole,” said another. “This is terrible, I am so sorry that Emirates behaved in this manner with you. Apologies & please escalate. this matter,” wrote another.
