Zomato Launches Pure Veg Mode And Pure Veg Fleet: India’s ‘vegetarian game’ is no joke. In fact, India became the first country where the food giant McDonald's had to introduce their vegetarian option for the largely vegetarian population; McAloo Tikki. Not that Indians do not love other non-veg options at McDonald's, but its McAloo Tikki surely proved to be a game changer. That was in 1998, and now years later, in 2024, another food giant did something similar and somewhat won the hearts of millions with their big ‘vegetarian move’; Zomato. Deepinder Goyal, Zomato CEO, took to his social media handle to announce the launch of their ‘Pure Veg Mode’ and ‘Pure Veg Fleet’ today, March 19.

As per Goyal, the move came after keeping in mind the ‘food concerns’ related to its preparation and handling by vegetarians. The Pure Veg Mode is basically a mode where people will get options only from pure vegetarian restaurants. Meanwhile, the Pure Veg Fleet will be responsible for the delivery of those vegetarian meals. As per Goyal’s post, the ‘green’ fleet will not enter non-vegetarian restaurants. They will be represented by the colour green, an obvious choice.

Apart from these modes, Goyal also spoke of a few other modes that are in plans for the future, like their ‘cake’ fleet or mode, which again, makes a whole lot of sense for a country like India where no celebration is complete without a mouthwatering cake!

The post was shared on the Zomato CEO’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle. The post read, “India has the largest percentage of vegetarians in the world, and one of the most important feedback we’ve gotten from them is that they are very particular about how their food is cooked, and how their food is handled.”

The post further read, “To solve for their dietary preferences, we are today, launching a ‘Pure Veg Mode’ along with a ‘Pure Veg Fleet’ on Zomato, for customers who have a 100 per cent vegetarian dietary preference.”
