Apple, Google Data Breach: At least 16 billion login credentials, including passwords from Google, Apple, Facebook, Telegram and other platforms, were leaked in one of the biggest data breaches in recent past. The researchers have uncovered 30 datasets, each containing millions to billions of records about the data of the users since the start of 2025.
According to Forbes, this data leak poses a threat to the personal data of the users and may expose them to various online scams. The information leaked in the data breach is new and well-organised. Security researchers said that the data is not old, but new and organised data collected by a malware known as "Infostealers". This type of malware silently steals your data, including the login credentials, passwords and other details and exposes them to hackers or dark web platforms.
All You Need To Know About The Data Leak
In one of the biggest data breaches in history, personal information of the users was leaked from a wide range of internet services, like social media platforms, to developer accounts and even some government portals. The 16 billion passwords which were leaked in the breach were new and organised, which shows the website link with the login credentials, making it vulnerable to a cyber attack. Experts are calling the data breach a “blueprint of global cybercrime” because of the millions to billions of data points collected in an organised way.
Experts Warn Users To Secure Their Data
Experts have warned users to secure their online data, including login credentials, to protect themselves. Google has asked users to switch from traditional passwords to secure passkeys. The authorities have also issued several advisories earlier to never click on unknown links in SMS or emails.
Users can secure their accounts by changing their passwords, opting for strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, and regularly checking their accounts. Users can also use tools to check if their login credentials have been leaked in an online scam.
