Police in Germany's Hamburg on Saturday said they were dealing with what they called a hostage situation after a man drove through a barrier onto the grounds of the city's airport with a child.
All takeoffs from and landings at the airport were suspended shortly after the incident at around 8 pm (local time).

A large police force was present at the scene of the purported hostage situation where a car with a 35-year-old man and a 4-year-old boy remained parked under a plane, a police spokesperson informed.
Police suspect the incident is the result of a custody dispute.

The mother told police the father had been in contact with her about the act. Police would not confirm their earlier statements that the man was armed and had fired shots.
A spokesperson for the airport said 27 flights had been affected.
