Iran-Israel War: In the wake of an unprecedented attack on its territories, Israel vowed to retaliate against Iran. The recent attack by Iran, marked by drone and missile attacks, has intensified the long-standing animosity between the two nations. Despite calls for restraint, Israeli Minister Benny Gantz on Sunday night said that Israel would choose the appropriate time and method to retaliate and "exact the price from Iran".
"We will build a regional coalition and exact the price from Iran in the fashion and timing that is right for us," Gantz said before the Israeli war cabinet, convened to discuss Israel’s response to Iran’s drone and missile attack.
Iran’s retribution came following the April 1 attack on Tehran’s embassy building in Syria’s Damascus, which reportedly killed seven members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including two high-ranking generals. However, Israel neither confirmed nor denied responsibility for the consulate attack in Syria.

- Iran's UN representative told the United Nations Security Council on Sunday that Iran was using its "inherent right to self-defense" in an unprecedented attack on Israel. "The Security Council... failed in its duty to maintain international peace and security" after Israel's apparent strike on an Iranian consulate in Damascus earlier this month,” Amir Saeid Iravani said.
- Iran’s UN envoy also said that Tehran "had no choice" but to respond, adding that his country does "not seek escalation or war," but will respond to any "threat or aggression."
- Earlier, Iran's Foreign Minister, Abdollahian in a press conference said that exercising the ‘right of legitimate defence’ demonstrates Iran's responsible approach to regional and international peace and security. He asserted that Tehran has no intention of continuing ‘defensive operations’ at this time, but warned Israel that the Islamic Republic would not hesitate to defend its ‘legitimate interests against any new aggression’.
- Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday said that India agreed to keep in touch with both Israel and Iran amid growing hostilities between the two nations. Jaishankar had a telephonic conversation with Iran and Israeli counterparts after Tehran attacked Israel.
- During his telephonic conversation with Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Jaishankar also discussed the release of 17 Indian crew members from a cargo ship seized by the Iranian military on Saturday.
- Following the conversation, Iran said that Indian representatives will soon be allowed to speak with MSC ARIES' Indian crew members. "Dr. Amir Abdollahian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of our country, informed his Indian counterpart during a telephone conversation about Iran's legitimate defence and the punishment of the Israeli regime,” read the announcement by Iran.
- Meanwhile, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said even though the attempt was foiled, the military campaign was not over and "we must be prepared for every scenario".
