Hezbollah Pager Explosion: At least 8 fighters were killed and over 2500 injured on Tuesday in simultaneous blasts in pagers of members of Hezbollah - the Islamic militia group based out in Lebanon. The mysterious explosions in thousands of Hezbollah's minimal-tech communication devices sent shockwaves around the country as chaos erupted over the mysterious origin of the explosions.
While Hezbollah termed it the biggest security breach in the history of the militia organisation, it accused Israel of planning the attack.
Here Are the Top Updates On Hezbollah Pager Blasts:
1. According to the news agency Reuters, Hezbollah uses a private telecommunication network based on a fixed-line framework which dates back to the early 2000s. The use of pagers as recommended by Hezbollah to its members was done to avoid any interception or tracking by enemy forces.
2. The explosions reportedly occurred in the new pagers provided by Hezbollah to its members. "Each one who received a new pager, throw it away," a voice message, which was circulated to the members of the radical Islamist group, stated in the aftermath of deadly explosions.
3. The technical reason behind the explosions is not yet known, however, several experts put up their theories on social media. Some suspected that the Israeli intelligence operatives may have intercepted a large number of pagers ordered by Hezbollah and either planted small plastic explosives in them or the pagers might have been replaced with similar-looking devices which were mini bombs.
4. Previously, Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah had warned the fighters of the group to stay away from smartphones as they could be used by Israel to track their movements and carry out precision strikes.
5. Known for software like Pegasus, Israel's sophisticated cyber attacking capabilities are deemed as one of the best in the world. A few years ago, Israel launched a cyber attack on Iran, targeting and almost destroying its nuclear program.
