Delhi Red Fort blast: Ambassadors from several countries on Monday extended their condolences to India after a powerful explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station claimed nine lives and left several injured. 

The explosion, which occurred shortly before 7 p.m., shook the densely populated area near Chandni Chowk. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families. “May the injured recover at the earliest. Authorities are assisting those affected,” the Prime Minister said on X (formerly Twitter).

Foreign Nations Condemn Attack, Extend Condolences

The international community reacted swiftly to the incident. Argentina’s Ambassador to India, Mariano Caucino, expressed deep sorrow, stating, “On behalf of the People and Government of Argentina, we convey our condolences to those who lost loved ones as a consequence of the Red Fort blast. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased and we wish a complete and swift recovery to all those injured.”

Former Israeli Ambassador to India, Daniel Carmon, called the explosion “devastating news from Delhi,” adding, “Praying for the victims, their families, and the wounded. Standing with India during this terrible evening.”

Embassies Issued Travel Advisory

The US State Department issued a travel advisory, urging people to avoid areas surrounding the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk. “On November 10, 2025, a car exploded near the Lal Quila (Red Fort) metro station in central Delhi, India, with local media reporting multiple casualties. While the cause of the explosion is unknown at this time, the Government of India has placed several Indian states on high alert," said the US embassy in India.

Meanwhile, the French Embassy in New Delhi issued an urgent advisory for its nationals, urging them to remain cautious and avoid crowded areas. “French citizens in New Delhi are strongly advised to exercise utmost vigilance and stay away from gatherings,” the statement read.

Following the explosion, security has been stepped up across several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Bihar. Officials have been directed to enhance patrols and increase surveillance in sensitive areas, especially near metro stations, markets, and religious sites.

Eyewitnesses Recall Chaos, Fear

Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic moments after the explosion. “I was walking toward the metro when I heard a deafening sound. The fire spread so fast that people started running in every direction,” a local resident said this to PTI. Another witness recalled, “There were bodies on the road, cars on fire, it was horrific.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who rushed to the scene after being briefed by top officials, also met the injured victims at Lok Nayak Hospital. Investigators are yet to determine the exact cause of the explosion. Authorities have detained the owner of the vehicle for questioning, while forensic experts are examining debris from the site.

As night fell over the capital, security forces remained deployed across central Delhi. The Red Fort area, one of India’s most iconic landmarks, was cordoned off as investigators continued their probe into one of the deadliest explosions the city has witnessed in over a decade.
