US-Iran War: Amid US President Donald Trump's push for a peace deal with Tehran to end the escalating conflict in West Asia, the United States and Israel have reportedly removed Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf from their hit list.

According to a Reuters report, Araghchi and Ghalibaf, two of Iran's top negotiators, were in Israel's target. However, mediators from Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt warned Washington that their assassination would burn all paths of a diplomatic solution, as there would be no one left in Tehran to talk to.

"The Israelis had their coordinates and wanted to take them out. We told the US that if they are also eliminated, then there is no one else to talk to; hence, the US asked the Israelis to back off," Reuters reported, citing a Pakistani source with knowledge of the discussions.

'Temporary Immunity' To Some Of Tehran's Top Leaders

However, the relief is short-lived as Israel has provided a 'temporary immunity' of four or five days to some of Tehran's top leaders, including Araghchi and Ghalibaf, amid the ongoing peace talks, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Mediators from Pakistan, Turkey and Egypt are pressing for negotiators from Washington and Tehran to meet within the next few days to discuss a temporary pause in the war and pave the way for peace talks. However, officials told WSJ that hopes for a breakthrough are low, as there are major gaps between the demands of the United States and Iran.

Trump Claims Iran 'Desperate' For A Deal

Amid the ongoing peace talks, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday claimed that Iran is 'desperate' to make a deal to end the ongoing conflict, while Tehran has said it has no intention of holding talks to de-escalate the situation. Iran has also dismissed Trump's 15-point proposal, calling it 'one-sided and unfair'.

US Will Hit Iran 'Harder Than They Have Ever Been Hit Before': White House

The United States has warned that the clock is ticking for Iran to come to the negotiating table. The White House further stated that the US will hit Iran "harder than they have ever been hit before" if Tehran doesn't agree to end the conflict soon.
