A bus rammed into multiple vehicles on Interstate 66 in Virginia on Friday, killing at least five people. The incident happened on southbound I-95 in Stafford County. Reports say that the bus failed to slow down southbound for an upcoming work zone and collided with six vehicles in front of .
All five of the people who died were in vehicles hit by the bus, and 44 people were taken to hospitals, including three in critical condition, police said. The bus carried nearly 34 people.
What Happened To The Passengers?
The accident occurred at about 2:35 am on southbound I-95 in Stafford County, near Quantico, Virginia.
Among the five people who lost their lives in the accident, four were in the same vehicle. Among the victims, there were a 45-year-old male, a 44-year-old female, a 13-year-old female, and a 7-year-old male, all from Greenfield, Massachusetts. The fifth victim, a 25-year-old female from Worcester, Massachusetts, was in an SUV that rammed into the bus.

The bus driver was identified as Jing S. Dong, 48, of Staten Island. The local healthcare facility claimed that it received 19 patients from the crash, the Associated Press reported. The facility shared an online post, saying that seven of the patients were taken to its trauma center in Fredericksburg, where four were being discharged and three remained in treatment—one in serious condition and two in critical condition. Twelve were taken to its hospital in Stafford, where they were later discharged in excellent condition.
Investigations Underway
The bus driver was identified as Jing S. Dong, 48, of Staten Island.The state police has still not put any charges against him. The investigating team said they are looking into the bus driver's actions prior to the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board said that it was sending a “go-team” to conduct a safety investigation into the crash and that it would have a spokesperson at the scene.
