Motorcycles are among the most commonly used vehicles in India as they are a more practical and affordable alternative to four-wheelers. However, the two-wheeler segment is also undergoing a major transition as people are switching from conventional ICE two-wheelers to electric two-wheelers. However, a major drawback of electric two-wheelers is that they are comparatively more expensive than the conventional ICE two-wheelers owing to the increased development cost. Capitalising on this opportunity, Bajaj Auto, one of the largest two-wheeler manufacturers in India, has revealed plans to launch a CNG-powered motorcycle in India soon.

According to a report by Autocar Professional, Bajaj is in the works to launch a CNG-cum-petrol motorcycle which has been codenamed Bruzer E101 is in the final production phase and is expected to launch in India in the next one year. Prototypes of the CNG motorcycle have already been developed. This CNG motorcycle is expected to get a 110 cc engine and will be initially manufactured at Bajaj’s Plant in Aurangabad. Additionally, there are plans that the CNG-cum-petrol motorcycle might share the name with Bajaj’s most popular two-wheeler offering, the Bajaj Platina.

“We certainly want to extend this capability to cover two-wheelers which is not easy due to space, size and usage differences. We definitely want to expand the share of 'cleaner fuels' in our portfolio which includes the full spectrum of EV, ethanol, LPG and CNG. You can be sure of this in both two-wheelers and three-wheelers and this alignment with society and government is very important for us,” Autocar Professional quoted Bajaj Auto, ED, Rakesh Sharma as saying.

The report further stated that Bajaj has revealed that initially, the plan was to produce around 1-1.2 lakh units of the CNG motorcycle every year but that has been revised to produce over 2 lakh units every year.
