Honda Motorcycles & Scooters India (HMSI) has launched the new SP 160 in India at a starting price of Rs 1.17 lakh (ex-showroom). Honda is slated to commence the delivery of the bike from this month’s end. The bike has been launched in two variants – single and dual disc models. The dual disc model has a starting price of Rs 1.22 lakh (ex-showroom).

The SP 160 is essentially an SP 125 that has been given a larger motor. It features identical body panels, a V-shaped LED headlight, a little bigger tank shroud, a single grab rail, a side-slung exhaust muffler with a chrome shield, and blacked-out internals. With the new SP 160, Honda is offering six different colour options, including Pearl Spartan Red, Matte Axis Gray Metallic, Pearl Ignite Black, Matte Marvel Blue Metallic and Pearl Deep Ground Gray.

SP 160 - Performance and Styling

As expected, the Unicorn 160 and XBlade serve as the foundation for the Honda SP 160. A 162.7cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 13.46 bhp at 7,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 14.58 Nm. The engine has been tweaked to provide an additional hp and 0.5 Nm compared to Unicorn. A 5-speed gearbox is used to transmit power to the back wheel.

The styling of the SP is more modern and youthful, with longer tank extensions and sharper lines throughout, in contrast to the Unicorn's more traditional and reserved appearance. The SP 160 is slightly more expensive than the Unicorn because it has entirely digital instrumentation in addition to LED lights.

Honda SP 160 - Impressive Hardware

Hardware-wise, the diamond-type frame is supported at the front and back by traditional telescopic forks and a mono-shock. A 276mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc, along with a single-channel ABS, handle braking responsibilities have been included in the bike. Rear drum brakes measuring 130mm are included in the standard model. The bike has 17-inch alloy wheels with front and rear MRF Nylogrip tires measuring 80/100 and 130/70 respectively.

Honda SP 160 - Advanced Features

The SP 160 comes equipped with a fully-digital LCD instrument console, an engine start/stop switch, and a hazard switch as its only extras. The speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge, and gear position indicator are all located on the instrument panel.
