Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has revealed plans to become an all-electric brand by 2030, which is in line with the global shift towards sustainable transportation. To speed up this transition, JLR is considering partnering with Chery, a well-known Chinese automaker known for its electric vehicle (EV) expertise.

Reports suggest that JLR might collaborate with Chery's Exeed brand to benefit from its electric vehicle platform. This collaboration could help JLR in electrifying its vehicles faster. Jaguar is expected to be the first brand under JLR to adopt Exeed's battery-electric platform, with plans to launch a new electric model based on this platform by the latter part of 2024. This move is not uncommon in the automotive industry, as many companies are forming partnerships to accelerate their electric vehicle plans. For example, Volkswagen has invested in Xpeng and Stellantis has a stake in Leapmotor, all aimed at developing electric vehicles more efficiently.

The collaboration with Chery is particularly beneficial for JLR due to Chery's established presence in China, the world's largest EV market. Through a joint venture, JLR and Chery already have a strong foothold in China, producing popular models like the Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport. Using Chery's platforms could further boost JLR's competitiveness in China's electric vehicle market.

Additionally, partnering with Chery could help JLR expand its electric vehicle lineup and cater to a wider range of customers. With the growing demand for electric vehicles, automakers like JLR need diverse options to attract more buyers. Chery's platforms and technologies could enable JLR to develop innovative and competitive electric vehicles that appeal to a broader audience.

Despite the potential benefits of JLR collaborating with Chery, there are challenges to consider. JLR must ensure that this collaboration aligns with its luxury and performance-focused brand identity. Preserving these attributes in electric vehicles developed through the partnership with Chery will be crucial to maintain customer satisfaction and brand loyalty.
