MG Cloud EV Spotted: MG Motor India seems to be gearing up to introduce its third electric vehicle in the Indian market. A test model of the Wuling Cloud EV was recently spotted on Indian roads, indicating that MG is likely testing the vehicle before its official launch later this year. Additionally, MG has also filed for a nameplate called Excelor EV, which could potentially be used for the production version of the Cloud EV.

MG Cloud EV - Design

Based on spy shots, the electric hatchback appears quite large and features a round shape. The headlamps are integrated into the bumpers and there's a light bar serving as both LED Daytime Running Lamps and turn indicators. Additionally, flush door handles contribute to improved aerodynamic efficiency.

MG Cloud EV - Battery and Range

In the global market, the Wuling Cloud EV is offered with two battery pack options - 37.9 kWh and 50.6 kWh, providing claimed ranges of 360 km and 460 km, respectively. However, it remains uncertain which version MG will bring to India.

In a move to enhance its operations in India, SAIC Motor, the Chinese company that owns MG, announced plans to bring in local investors. Another such investor is JSW Ventures, a division of the JSW group, which aims to acquire a 35 per cent stake in MG Motor India for a substantial investment of Rs 3,580 crore ($430 million). This partnership also includes a significant investment of Rs 5,000 crore to boost production capacity and introduce a new car every 3-6 months starting from September.

Therefore, there's a strong possibility that MG's version of the Cloud EV could be the first vehicle launched under this new partnership. Overall, MG's entry into the electric vehicle segment with the Cloud EV (potentially under the Excelor EV nameplate) signifies a significant step towards expanding its electric vehicle portfolio and catering to the growing demand for sustainable mobility in India.
