Bihar SIR: The hearing process for names deleted in Bihar’s voter list under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), conducted by the Election Commission of India (ECI) ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, concluded on Thursday, September 25. As per the Election Commission’s guidelines, the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) were assigned between September 1 and 25 to examine and resolve claims related to voter deletions in the electoral rolls.

With the deadline now over, officials will verify the revised data before sending it for final printing on Saturday. The final voter list is slated for publication on September 30, Jagran.com reported.

According to the data, the EC received a total of 16,93,361 applications for name additions and 2,17,049 applications for deletions following the SIR held on August 30. Earlier, on August 1, a draft voter list was released covering 90,712 polling booths across the state’s 243 assembly constituencies. The draft included the names of 72.4 million voters, following which the claims and objections process was commenced.

During Bihar SIR, a total of 16,93,361 voters across the state submitted applications for inclusion in the voter list. Of these, 36,475 applications were submitted for corrections or additions, while 6,56,886 applications came from new voters aged 18 and above seeking to have their name added to the voter list. 2,17,049 voters submitted requests to get their names removed from the voter list.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday appointed Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan as the election in-charge for the upcoming Assembly Elections. The party also appointed CR Patil and Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya as co-incharges.

The appointment came amid strong indications that the EC is likely to announce the schedule of the Bihar Assembly elections after October 6. The Bihar Assembly Elections are likely to take place in October or November this year.
