Indian Railways is set to enhance passenger comfort on the Amrit Bharat Express by introducing air-conditioned (AC) coaches for the first time. The upcoming third version of the train (Amrit Bharat 3.0) will feature a mix of AC, Sleeper, and General classes, with construction progressing rapidly at the Integrated Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai.
The Railway Board has officially approved the new coach composition. In a formal communication, Jayant Ramchandran, Director of Mechanical Engineering (PU) at the Railway Board, has sent a letter detailing the new configuration to all railway headquarters, including the East Central Railway.
New Coach Composition (Amrit Bharat 3.0)
The upgraded Amrit Bharat Express will be a 22-coach train with the following structure:
First AC: 1 coach
Second AC: 2 coaches
Third AC: 6 coaches
Sleeper Class: 6 coaches
General Class: 4 coaches
Coaches for Divyangjan: 2
AC Pantry Car: 1
Power Cars: 2 (one at the front and one at the rear)
The Evolution Of Amrit Bharat
Launched in 2023, the Amrit Bharat Express was introduced as an affordable and high-quality service for passengers in low and middle-income groups. The train has evolved through three versions:
Version 1.0: Featured a push-pull design with engines at both ends and consisted only of Sleeper and General coaches.
Version 2.0: A pantry car was added to enhance onboard services.
Version 3.0: This latest version marks a significant upgrade with the inclusion of First, Second, and Third AC coaches.

The Integral Coach Factory in Perambur (Chennai), the Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala, and the Modern Coach Factory in Raebareli have all been informed of the new design to facilitate production.
