Heavy and continuous rainfall since Saturday morning has severely disrupted daily life in the state capital, Patna, leading to a major road collapse near the Mithapur vegetable market that has trapped two vehicles. The city was plunged into darkness by thick, overcast skies before the torrential downpour began.
Mithapur Road Collapse
A significant incident occurred near the Mithapur vegetable market where a 10-foot section of a road suddenly subsided. Two vehicles fell into the collapsed portion and became trapped. The local administration responded immediately by:
- Cordoning off the entire area to ensure public safety.
- Stopping all traffic movement near the site.
- Initiating relief and rescue operations to retrieve the vehicles and assess the damage.
- Widespread Disruption and Weather Conditions
The relentless rain has caused widespread waterlogging, particularly in low-lying areas of the city, causing significant hardship for the public. The situation is part of a broader weather pattern affecting many parts of Bihar, which have recently experienced flooding, overflowing rivers, and lightning strikes.
Official Warnings And Public Advisory
The meteorological department has issued a heavy rain alert for Patna and several other districts in Bihar. A specific warning for lightning has also been announced. In response, the administration has urged the public to take the following precautions:
- Remain in safe locations and avoid going out unless necessary.
- Stay away from waterlogged areas.
- Exercise extra caution in areas identified as sensitive or high-risk.
