J&K DA Hike 2026: The Jammu and Kashmir government has delivered significant financial relief to its workforce and retirees by announcing a 2 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA). This revision, effective retroactively from January 1, 2026, raises the DA rate from the existing 58 per cent to 60 per cent of basic pay or basic pension.
Arrears To Be Paid
According to official Finance Department orders, the increased DA will be paid with monthly salaries and pensions starting May 2026. For the arrears accumulated between January and April 2026, the government has established specific payment mechanisms based on the employee's retirement scheme. Employees under the traditional pension scheme will have their four months of arrears deposited into their General Provident Fund (GPF) accounts in monthly installments.

On the other hand, staff covered by the National Pension System (NPS) will receive their full arrears in cash, though the 10 per cent employee contribution will be deducted at source for PRAN accounts alongside the 14 per cent employer share.
Pensioners and family pensioners benefiting from the 7th Pay Commission recommendations are set to receive their four-month arrears entirely with the May 2026 salary. To simplify calculations for retirees, any fractions of a rupee in the DA amount will be rounded up to the next whole rupee.
Basic pay To Be Remain Standard
The Finance Department clarified that "basic pay" refers strictly to the already defined level in the pay matrix, excluding special pay or other allowances. Administrative departments, the Principal Accountant General, and the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have been notified for immediate implementation.
This DA hike announcement ensures that thousands of beneficiaries receive their adjusted entitlements promptly, providing a vital economic boost ahead of the mid-year period for the region's public sector community.
The decision follows the Council of Ministers' resolution and applies to regular employees, pensioners, and family pensioners.
