Stock market Closing: The benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty 50 erased their early losses and ended the day trade in gain on Friday i.e. April 19th. BSE's top 30 stock indices Sensex closed at 73,088.33, up by 599 points or 0.8%, while NSE's Nifty 50 ended trade at 22,147.00, up by 0.69% or 151.15 points.
HDFC Bank, JSW Steel, Maruti, Wipro, Bajaj Finance, Bharti Airtel, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Finserv, ITC, and ICICI Bank were the major gainers on the Sensex. Tata Consultancy Services, HCL Technologies, Larsen & Toubro, Nestle India, Tata Motors, and Infosys were among the laggards.

Infosys fell by nearly 1% after the company's revenue growth guidance for the fiscal year 2015 fell short of market expectations. In the Asian markets, Shanghai, Tokyo, Seoul, and Hong Kong closed in the red.
European markets were trading in the red. Wall Street ended mostly lower on Thursday. The global oil benchmark Brent crude rose by 0.55% to US$87.62 per barrel. According to exchange data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold equities worth Rs 4,260.33 crore on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the 2024 Lok Sabha elections began with the start of the first phase of voting on Friday. On Thursday, the BSE benchmark index had closed at 72,488.99, down by 454.69 points or 0.62%.
The rupee pared early losses against the US dollar and eventually closed 4 paise higher at 83.48 against the greenback amid strong gains in domestic equities. The local currency opened at 83.58 against the dollar in the interbank foreign exchange market. The unit touched an intra-day high of 83.46 against the dollar. The Indian currency finally settled at 83.48 (provisional) against the dollar, up 4 paise from its previous close.
