T20 World Cup: Amid the escalating controversy surrounding Pakistan's participation in the T20 World Cup, Iceland Cricket injected a much-needed dose of humour, targeting the Men in Green with a tongue-in-cheek post as talk of their possible boycott grew.
Iceland Cricket shared a post on social media, a jibe that came off following Bangladesh's withdrawal and sharp comments from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), poking fun at Pakistan's indecision.
“We really need Pakistan to decide soon upon their participation in the T20 WC. We are ready to take off as soon as they pull out on 2nd Feb, but the flight schedule is a logistical nightmare to get us to Colombo in good time for 7th Feb. Our opening bat is an insomniac!” Iceland Cricket wrote in a post.
Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi has criticised the ICC for treating Bangladesh unfairly, and stated that the decision of Pakistan's participation in the tournament will be taken on Friday or Monday next week.
The PCB hasn't confirmed their T20 World Cup participation, but sources suggest they're considering forfeiting their match against India, keeping the option open.
"I had a productive meeting with the Prime Minister and briefed him on the ICC matter. He directed that we resolve it while keeping all options on the table," Naqvi tweeted.
"It was agreed that the final decision will be taken either on Friday or next Monday," he added.
Naqvi's words have flared speculation about Pakistan possibly boycotting the tournament, despite the PCB announcing its squad just a day later, leaving the team's participation uncertain.
Pakistan is set to start their T20 World Cup run against the Netherlands on February 7 in Colombo, followed by matches against the USA (February 10), India (February 15) and Namibia (February 18).
