Gambhir called Rohit a selfless captain.

"Rohit Sharma would've got 40-45 hundreds by now, but he's not obsessed with hundreds. He's selfless," Gambhir said on Star Sports.

Rohit has been in sublime touch and has missed out on multiple fifties, aiming for big shots and scoring quickly for the sake of the team.

He has come out all guns blazing in the tournament after scoring 0 in the first match against Australia as he has been playing with an aggressive approach to put pressure on the bowlers early in the innings.

He has a marvelous strike rate of 133 in the tournament so far.

Talking about the match against England, India lost early wickets including Virat Kohli but Rohit kept things stable at the other end as the Men in Blue aim for their sixth successive win in the tournament.

However, fans were left unhappy with Gambhir's comments, assuming that his statement was a kind of jibe at Kohli who is inching closer to Sachin Tendulkar's legendary tally of 49 ODI centuries.

Meanwhile, Gambhir who is known for his outspoken nature when it comes to cricket, also lauded Kohli's temperament earlier in the tournament.

Kohli played a spectacular innings against New Zealand, helping the team to clinch their fifth win after he bailed them out of trouble.

Gambhir heaped praise on Kohli for his match-winning knock and even called him the greatest finisher of the game.

"Virat Kohli is the Greatest Finisher ever. No one is better than him. He is the Chase Master," Gambhir said on Star Sports.
