IND vs NZ, World Cup 2023: The star Indian batter Shubman Gill reached another milestone by becoming the fastest to score 2,000 ODI runs in One-Day Internationals in just 38 innings. He broke the record of Hashim Amla who achieved this feat in 40 innings.
His lightning-quick achievement puts him ahead of legends like Zaheer Abbas, Kevin Pietersen, and fellow contemporary stars Babar Azam and Rassie van der Dussen, all of whom achieved this milestone in 45 innings.
He also became the fifth youngest Indian (24 years, 44 days) to reach the 2000 run landmark in ODIs. Gill’s idol Sachin Tendulkar is the youngest Indian ever (20 years, 354 days) to score 2000 runs in ODI format.

Gill was just 14 runs away from breaking a remarkable record before facing New Zealand in their latest clash. The prolific opening batter has been in superb form this year, accumulating 1300 runs in 22 innings in 2023, including five half-centuries and centuries.
Speaking ahead of the Bangladesh game, Gill emphasised the importance of a stable mindset and sticking to the fundamentals to achieve success in this quadrennial event.
"Maintaining my focus on the basics and my regular routine is crucial, especially in the lead-up to each match. Having a strong mindset is the key," Gill had said.
He added, "The experience has been fantastic, especially my first match against Pakistan, which was a significant moment for us. We've built good momentum, and I hope we can sustain it."

Gill, a prolific right-handed top-order batsman from Punjab, showcased his batting talent early in his career. His remarkable journey began with the India Under-19 team, where he served as the vice-captain during the 2018 World Cup.
Gill's cricketing talents were evident as he consistently played at an age-group level higher than his peers. Notable achievements include a record-breaking 587-run opening partnership in an Under-16 tournament and receiving the BCCI award for the best junior cricketer for two consecutive years.
His domestic and international performances have further solidified his reputation as a promising talent. In the 2018 IPL auction, he was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 1.8 crore.
