India ODI captain Shubman Gill produced a stunning knock in Guwahati on Wednesday as the India captain tore into the West Indies bowling attack and raced to a double century in just 117 balls.
Gill became only the second batter after Rohit Sharma to score more than one double century in ODI cricket. He had previously reached the landmark against New Zealand in Hyderabad in 2023.
His latest 200 was even more special as it became the fastest double century ever recorded in men’s ODI cricket. Gill reached the milestone with an innings packed with 24 fours and seven sixes.

Gill Brings Up Century In 62 Balls
Gill had already put India in a commanding position before reaching his double century. He brought up his 11th ODI century in just 62 balls, with five sixes and 10 fours.
The century came during a huge opening partnership with Rohit Sharma. The pair had added 192 runs together by the time Gill reached three figures.
It was also Gill’s third successive ODI century in India. Only Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers have managed longer streaks in the format, with both having scored four consecutive centuries on Indian soil.
Gill’s 62-ball century also set a new record for the fastest ODI hundred by an Indian captain. He went past Rohit’s previous mark, which was set in October 2023.
Gill Continues His Fine Run Against West Indies
Gill had already played a major role in India’s win in the first ODI, scoring 110 off 108 balls.
He shared a big partnership with Rohit in the second match, while his partnership in the opening game came with Virat Kohli. Kohli eventually stole the show in that match with an unbeaten 139 off 88 balls.
India entered the second ODI chasing a massive target of 406 after West Indies produced a record-breaking batting performance.

West Indies Post Record ODI Total
Earlier, West Indies piled up 405/7 after their batters made full use of a flat pitch at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.
John Campbell led the charge with a 68-ball 101, hitting nine fours and five sixes. Captain Shai Hope then added 104 from 94 balls, including eight fours and three sixes.
Amir Jangoo provided the final push with a spectacular 114 off just 77 balls. His innings included 13 fours and three sixes.
The 405/7 was West Indies’ highest-ever total in ODI cricket.
For India, Kuldeep Yadav was the standout bowler, finishing with figures of 2/65.
