India vs Australia 1st ODI: Australia defeated India by 7 wickets in the 1st ODI match at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Sunday to go 1-0 up in the three-match series. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's comebacks didn't go as planned, as the veteran batters had disappointing outings with the bat in the rain-marred contest.
Australia chased down the revised target of 131 runs in the 22nd over with Matt Renshaw hitting the winning runs. Skipper Mitchell Marsh led from the front in the run chase and ended up playing an incredible knock of unbeaten 46 runs in 52 balls on the back of two fours and three sixes.
This was the first win for Australia at the Optus Stadium in the ODIs as they ended India's one-year-long unbeaten streak in the format.

After being put into bat first, India had a complete failure at the top as Rohit Sharma (8), new skipper Shubman Gill (10) and Virat Kohli (0) departed cheaply. The match witnessed multiple rain interruptions before the contest was reduced to 26 overs per side. On the back of KL Rahul's 38-run contribution, India posted a total of 136/9 in their 26 overs, whereas Axar Patel scored 31 runs.

Chasing the target, Australia lost an early wicket as Arshdeep Singh got the better of the dangerous Travis Head for just 8 runs in the second over of the innings. Matthew Short (8) departed cheaply as well before skipper Marsh and Josh Philippe stitched a crucial partnership for the third wicket. The duo added 55 runs for the third wicket to put the visitors on the back foot. However, it was too late for the Men in Blue in the contest before they got the wicket of Josh Philippe for 37 runs in the 16th over.
"When you lose three wickets in the powerplay, you're always trying to play a catch-up game (on the rain delays and the poor start). A lot of learning for us from this game, and a lot of positives for us as well. We were defending 130, and we took the game, not till the very end, but pretty deep. We were very satisfied with that," Indian skipper Shubman Gill said at the post-match presentation.
The second ODI of the series is scheduled to be played at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday.
