India vs New Zealand ODI Series: Ayush Badoni has been named as Washington Sundar's replacement in India's squad for the remainder of the ODI series against New Zealand. Sundar has been ruled out of the series due to an injury he sustained during the first ODI match in Vadodara on Sunday. BCCI confirmed the development ahead of the second match, which is scheduled to be played on Wednesday.
Sundar walked off the field after feeling discomfort in his lower rib area while bowling during the first innings as India put the Blackcaps into bat first. He bowled just five overs in the match and gave away 27 runs. However, he came out to bat and made a crucial contribution of 7 runs, standing at the other end while KL Rahul finished the game for the hosts.
"India all-rounder Washington Sundar reported an acute onset of discomfort in his left lower rib area while bowling during the first ODI against New Zealand at the BCA Stadium, Vadodara, on Sunday. He will undergo further scans, following which the BCCI Medical Team will seek expert opinion," BCCI said in the press release.

"Washington has been ruled out of the remaining two matches of the IDFC First Bank ODI series," the BCCI added.
Talking about Badoni, the 26-year-old was recently seen in action for Delhi in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. His most recent outing was against Haryana in their group D match. He didn't get to bat in that match as Delhi registered a dominating victory over Haryana by 9 wickets, making it to the knockouts on the back of six wins in seven matches.
"The Men’s Selection Committee has named Ayush Badoni as his replacement. Badoni will link up with the squad in Rajkot, the venue for the second ODI," the press release read.
Badoni has captained the Delhi team as well, and interestingly, he was leading the domestic side when Virat Kohli turned up for them after a long while for their Ranji Trophy match against Railways last year. The right-handed batter has been putting in impressive performances in domestic cricket over the past few seasons. Having represented the Lucknow Super Giants, Badoni has played 56 IPL career matches and has scored 963 runs at an average of 26.75 on the back of six fifties.
