IPL 2024: The Indian Premier League (IPL) is likely to take place in India, ending the speculations over the venue due to general elections as per a report from ANI.

The 17th season of the most popular T20 league is likely to kick off on March 22, 2024, whereas the final dates of the elections could also be announced around the same time.

Despite IPL's venue being changed during the 2009 and 2014 general elections, this year's tournament will only be played in India just like it happened in 2019, confirmed a BCCI source as per a report form ANI.

"There is nothing like that, to shift the tournament outside the country, as the general election will also be at the same time. If any state doesn't want to host the match at that time, with any justified reason, the match could be shifted to another venue," ANI quoted a BCCI source as saying.

BCCI has always been against hosting the IPL matches overseas but the entire 2009 edition was held in South Africa, and the first 20 matches in 2014 took place in the UAE – both due to security issues surrounding the general elections.

On the other hand, all the teams have their squads finalised after the successful staging of the IPL 2024 Auction in Dubai last month.

The auction saw the record for the most expensive player break twice. Australia star Mitchell Starc became the most expensive player in the history of the tournament as he was bagged by Kolkata Knight Riders for a price tag of Rs24.75 crore.

Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings will set out to defend their crown with MS Dhoni once again set to take charge.
