Former Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal has strongly criticized the team management following their unexpected defeat to Bangladesh in the first Test at Rawalpindi.
Akmal believes that Mohammad Rizwan's half-century was the only factor that saved Pakistan from an even more embarrassing innings defeat. He expressed frustration that the team has failed to learn from past mistakes and improve, leading to repeated disappointments.
Former Pakistan batter has expressed his deep disappointment and shock at Pakistan's humiliating 10-wicket loss to Bangladesh, their first-ever defeat to the team on home soil. He stated that this loss will take years to recover from, citing Pakistan's winless streak in their last nine home Tests, including a 3-0 whitewash against England in 2022.
Akmal believes this defeat marks a new low point for the team, led by Shan Masood, and will have long-lasting repercussions. He shared his thoughts on his YouTube channel, emphasizing the gravity of this loss and the need for significant improvement.
"Ye to Rizwan ne 50 kiya aur scoreboard chalaya warna innings se haarte. Ye itni buri haar hai ki bhooli nahi jaegi. Aap kisi ka bura sochoge to aapke saath bhi bura hi hoga. Aapne pichle 5 saalon se kuch nahi seekha. Aap Zimbabwe se haar gaye. Pichle saal aap Asia Cup se baahar ho gaye th. Abhi aap itna zaleel hue hain world cup me, Pakistan cricket ka mazaak ban chuka hai globally," Akmal said on his YouTube channel.
(Had Rizwan not scored a 50 and ran the scoreboard, you've would've lost by an innings. You haven't learned anything in the last 5 years. You lost to Zimbabwe. Last year, you were eliminated from Asia Cup. You were humiliated at the T20 World Cup. Made a complete mockery of Pakistan cricket)
Kamran Akmal praised the Bangladesh team for their impressive comeback victory, showcasing remarkable composure and determination to snatch a win from a seemingly unlikely position.
In contrast, he criticized the Pakistan players for their lack of seriousness, observing that they were seen laughing and relaxed in the dressing room despite losing control of the match. Akmal questioned their attitude and commitment, suggesting that they failed to grasp the gravity of the situation and respond with the necessary urgency.
"It was a difficult time for Bangladesh but their batters scored runs. They had to save the Test, and they not only did that but also won the game. They basically exposed Pakistan cricket. And our players were batting like club cricketers. Sorry, not even club cricketers play like this. The approach was poor. Players are having a laugh in the dressing room, there is no seriousness because they know nobody will ask anything. It seems that you are playing for fun," he added.
