Rohit Sharma, India's legendary batter, will be in action for Mumbai in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, which is scheduled to be played from December 24 to January 18. Rohit recently played the three-match ODI series against South Africa, which India won 2-1, scoring 146 runs on the back of two half-centuries.
Rohit's return to domestic cricket for the premier one-day tournament is confirmed, but in an interesting turn of events, the veteran opener will play a few matches for Mumbai before playing in the ODI series against New Zealand. India are set to host New Zealand for a promising white-ball assignment, including a three-match ODI series, which starts from January 11.
The matches between India and New Zealand are scheduled to take place in Vadodara, Rajkot and Indore on January 11, 14 and 18, respectively. As per a report by RevSportz, Rohit, who scored 75 runs for India in the third and final ODI against South Africa in Visakhapatnam, is yet to officially confirm his availability for the matches in Jaipur to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), but the former India captain remains firmly in the association's scheme of things.

"The squad will be picked on a match-to-match basis, and we expect Rohit to play a few games, although we haven’t received any confirmation from him yet," an MCA source was quoted in the report as saying.
"But there’s time. The squad is likely to be picked next week, after the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. There are ODIs against New Zealand next month as well, so it will depend on his availability," the source added.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is all set to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy after a long gap of 15 years. The former Indian captain was included in Delhi’s squad along with Rishabh Pant on Thursday. Virat will be heading into the domestic cricket on the back of an incredible outing in the ODI series against South Africa, having scored 302 runs at an average of 151 on the back of two centuries and a fifty.
Delhi’s first two Elite Group D matches will be against Andhra and Gujarat at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Rohit and Virat remain just ODI players, having retired from the Test and T20I formats. With their eyes set on the ODI World Cup 2027, the veteran duo will be playing in domestic cricket in order to have enough game time.
