SA vs BAN, ODI World Cup 2023: South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first against Bangladesh in Match 23 of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday.
Aiden Markram is leading the South African side in the absence of the regular skipper Temba Bavuma who is yet to recover from illness while Shakib Al Hasan made his return for Bangladesh.
Temba Bavuma once again missed out for the Proteas as Markram came out for the toss for the second successive game with the team making one change as Lizaad Williams replaced Lungi Ngidi who missed out due to a niggle.
"We will bat first. Trying to approach it in a similar way to the English game. It's really hot. It took a toll on everyone, it's advantage fielding in the evening. It proves that anyone can beat anyone. We took a lesson from that Netherlands game, it's a new day today. We need to try and repeat the same thing. Ngidi has a niggle, he misses out, Lizaad comes in," Markram said at the toss.

For Bangladesh, Shakib's inclusion was the only change as he replaced Towhid Hridoy in the Playing XI.
"Fully fit. Hridoyis not playing, I come in the team for him. Today is an important game, we have to play our best cricket to win against SA. I don't mind bowling first. If we restrict them to a respectable total, we can chase it down.," Shakib said at the toss.
Shakib had sustained a quad tear during the match against New Zealand and despite trying hard, failed to make it for the India clash in Pune on October 19.
"When I practiced yesterday, I didn't feel anything negative. I will train today and if everything is okay, then I am fit," Shakib said ahead of the South Africa fixture.
While South Africa humiliated England in their last match, beating them by 229 runs, Bangladesh suffered a defeat against India in their previous fixture.
South Africa, with three wins in four matches, stand in the third position with six points under their belt.
On the other hand, things haven't gone in Bangladesh's favor so far in the tournament as they are placed seventh in the points table with just one win and two points.
