Asia Cup 2025: Star India batter Shreyas Iyer has finally reacted to how he dealt after getting dropped from the Indian team and reckoned that it was quite frustrating, especially when he was aware of the fact that he too deserved a spot and that won't stop him from supporting those who were picked. He revealed that the main aim is always the team's success. Shreyas was snubbed from the Indian team for the Asia Cup 2025, which is all set to begin next week. He was one of the top batters of IPL 2025 as he had scored 600 runs at a staggering strike rate of more than 175 an helped the Punjab-based franchise to qualify for their second smmit clash as Ajit Agarkar, who is the chief selector of the Indian team had said that there was no place left for him in the T20I team, which has been playing under the leadership of Suryakmar Yadav after winning the 2024 T20 Worl Cup.
He has been treated similarly in Tests and ODIs as well. As far as the 50-overs are concerned, he was on the verge of getting snubbed earlier this year, even though he was one of the best consistent batters in this format. He was only picked after Virat Kohli had sustained a small injury, and the team management then backed Iyer, and he thus sealed his position.
“It is only frustrating when you know that you deserve to be in the team, in the playing XI. At that time, it’s frustrating. But at the same time, when you know that someone is performing and playing consistently for the team and bringing their best, you support them. And eventually, the goal is for the team to win. When the team is winning, everyone is happy," Shreyas Iyer told the iQOO India podcast.
“Even if you don’t get a chance, you have to make sure that you do your work ethically. It’s not like you do it only when someone is watching. Even when no one is watching, you have to keep doing your work," he concluded.
Shreyas would now be leading the India A team from the front for a two-match series against Australia A.
