RR vs GT IPL 2026: Rajasthan Royals' star opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi etched his name in history by becoming the second Indian cricketer to smash 40 sixes in a single IPL season. Opening for Rajasthan against the Gujarat Titans in Jaipur, Vaibhav hammered 36 runs off 15 balls, including three fours and three sixes. His three sixes lifted his season count to 40 after 11 matches.

Vaibhav leads the ongoing season's six-hitting charts and ranks second among Indians for most sixes in a single IPL season.

Abhishek Sharma holds the Indian record for most sixes in an IPL season, hitting 42 for Hyderabad in 16 matches during IPL 2024.

Sooryavanshi needs just three more sixes for Rajasthan this season to surpass Abhishek's record.

Chris Gayle holds the record for most sixes in a single IPL season, blasting 59 in 15 matches for Bengaluru in 2012. He also hit 51 sixes for Bengaluru in 2013.

Andre Russell ranks second overall for most sixes in a single IPL season, hitting 42 in 14 matches for Kolkata Knight Riders during IPL 2019.

Before reaching 40 sixes this season, Vaibhav became the first teenager to hit 100 sixes in T20 cricket. He needed just one six against the Shubman Gill-led side to reach 100 T20 sixes, achieving this by launching Mohammed Siraj's first ball for six.
