Rajasthan Royals (RR) batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is very close to breaking a big record in the Indian Premier League. He needs just six more sixes to go past Abhishek Sharma’s record for the most sixes by an Indian player in a single IPL season.

Sooryavanshi could reach this milestone in the upcoming match against Delhi Capitals in Jaipur. In IPL 2026 so far, he has played nine matches and scored 400 runs. He is averaging 44.44 and scoring very quickly with a strike rate of 238.09. His performances include one century and two half-centuries, with a highest score of 103. He has already smashed 34 fours and 37 sixes.

Right now, the record belongs to Abhishek Sharma, who hit 42 sixes in the 2024 season. That year, he scored 484 runs in 16 innings, with an average of 32.26 and a strike rate of 207.21. His top score was 75 not out, and he finished as the 10th-highest run-scorer of the tournament.

Another record Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will break

Sooryavanshi is also close to another incredible achievement. Even though he is only 15, he has already hit 99 sixes in just 27 T20 innings. This is the most sixes hit by any player before turning 20. He now needs just one more six to reach 100, which would be a rare and possibly long-standing record.

Looking at his overall IPL career so far, Sooryavanshi has scored 652 runs in 16 innings. He averages 40.75 and has an impressive strike rate of 224.82, with two centuries and three fifties to his name.
