India's veteran batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been out of cricketing action for a while now. The duo was seen playing for their respective teams during the IPL 2025.
Having retired from the T20I and Test cricket, both Virat and Rohit are active cricketers only in the ODI format. Amid the heavy speculations regarding their future, Virat and Rohit are likely to be picked in the India A squad for the upcoming three 50-over matches against the Australia A team.
According to a report in the Hindustan Times on Sunday (September 7), Kohli and Rohit could be picked for the three 50-over matches. The India A team is scheduled to play three unofficial ODIs against Australia A at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on September 30, October 3 and October 5.

Rohit and Kohli announced their retirements from Test cricket in May 2025 and have not played a competitive match since the conclusion of IPL 2025. While Rohit captained the Indian team that won the ICC Champions 2025 in Dubai, Virat played a key role with the bat. He scored a match-winning century against the arch-rivals Pakistan before producing an incredible knock against Australia in the semis.

The report went on to claim that Kohli could travel to India this month and “may undergo a round of fitness assessments in Bengaluru."
A few days ago, Rohit, along with India's Asia Cup-bound players, underwent a fitness Test at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence and passed it with ease. If Kohli and Rohit feature for India A, then it will also help them prepare for the three-match ODI series against the Australian team in Australia.
The Men in Blue will be travelling to Australia next month for a three-match ODI and five-match T20I series. The ODI games are scheduled to take place in Perth, Adelaide and Sydney on October 19, 23 and 25, respectively, whereas the five T20Is will be played in Canberra, Melbourne, Hobart, Gold Coast and Brisbane on October 29, October 31, November 2, November 6 and November 8, respectively.
Rohit has scored 2407 runs in 46 ODIs against Australia, whereas Kohli has amassed a total of 2451 runs in 50 matches played so far against the six-time world champions in the 50-over format of the game.
