In contrast, exuberant Afghanistan supporters took to the streets to revel in their team's historic victory against the arch-rivals Pakistan on the grandest stage.

Their win against Pakistan was their first-ever ODI triumph over their rivals after eight previous attempts. This achievement was especially sweet, given the heartbreak of their loss in the previous World Cup edition.

The top order of Afghanistan's batting lineup displayed remarkable resilience, crafting an opening partnership of 130 runs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz's crucial 65-run innings laid the foundation, while Ibrahim Zadran's superb performance contributed 87 runs before he was dismissed by Rizwan.

Rahmat Shah and captain Hashmatullah Shahidi sealed the deal with a partnership of 96 runs. Rahmat's unbeaten 77 proved pivotal, steering Afghanistan to a convincing victory by eight wickets.

Before this, Pakistan had set a challenging total of 282 runs after winning the toss, thanks in part to the late-inning fireworks ignited by Shadab Khan and Iftikhar Ahmed. Babar Azam was the top scorer for Pakistan, scoring 74 runs.
