The Delhi Police stated on Saturday that they have not yet received any formal complaint regarding the alleged physical assault on a passenger by an off-duty Air India Express pilot at Delhi Airport. The incident, which reportedly took place at Terminal-1, came to light after the passenger shared his ordeal on social media.
Police Statement On The Incident
According to the police, they became aware of the matter only through a post on the platform X by the passenger, Ankit Dewan.
No FIR Yet: Officials clarified that no report has been filed at the police station by either the complainant or the airline so far.
Investigation Protocol: The police emphasised that appropriate legal action will be taken only after a written representation is submitted by the alleged victim. Future action will depend on the complaint and an examination of available evidence, including CCTV footage.
The Allegation
On Friday, passenger Ankit Dewan alleged in a post on X that Captain Virender Sejwal, an Air India Express pilot, physically assaulted him near the security area of Terminal-1.
The Dispute: Dewan claimed the altercation began when he objected to some staff members allegedly breaking the queue at a security checkpoint.
Assault Claims: He alleged that the pilot first verbally abused him and then physically assaulted him. Dewan further stated that the incident left him injured and his seven-year-old daughter, who witnessed the altercation, traumatised.

Airline Takes Action
Air India Express has acknowledged the incident involving one of its employees.
Pilot Status: The airline clarified that the pilot was off-duty and travelling as a passenger with another airline at the time of the incident.
Disciplinary Measure: Pending an internal investigation, the pilot has been removed from official duty with immediate effect.
Sources had earlier reported that following the incident, the off-duty pilot departed for Bengaluru on an IndiGo flight.
